So the ship set sail for sunnier climes, with Mr Arrow (first mate) suspicious of Silver and his cronies and applying discipline accordingly. Long John had a job keeping the pirates' temper at bay, telling his shipmates that he was going to "take care" of Mr Arrow.

To do this he tempted him with Plum Duff, with a double dose of rum in it. He then plied him with extra rum (Arrow's weakness) and during a storm helped him back on deck where he was promptly washed overboard. The pirates were still not happy and wanted to mutiny - their plans were overheard by Jim while he was getting a few of the last apples from the barrel.

Just then land was sighted and Jim was able to tell the Squire, Doctor and Captain of their mutinous intentions. The Squire exclaimed "I owe myself an ass" when he realised what a bad judge of character he had been.

Silver was in the long boat to tow the Hispaniola to a safe anchorage and it was at this juncture that the pirates attacked. Silver called George Merry (the most vociferous of the pirates) "a blundering squid" for disobeying his orders.

Across the river from the Hole in the Wall and alongside Redcliffe Bridge, set amongst the ancient dockside cobbles and lifting hoists, we would like to see young Jim resting against his famous apple barrels and keeping a weather eye out for that old rascal, Long John Silver. Using barrels on the quayside would echo the days of Bristol as a working port.
